K. B. Hase at the International Nineteenth-Century Studies Association Annual Conference

From Wednesday 10th to Friday 12th July 2024, the LAGOOS team were at the University of Durham, UK, for the inaugural conference of the International Nineteenth-Century Studies Association (INCSA). The conference brought together a range of experts of the 19th century from academic and heritage organisations, as well as and galleries, libraries, archives and museums to present and discuss topics related to its theme: “The Nineteenth Century Today: Interdisciplinary, International, Intertemporal”

The LAGOOS project’s panel placed K. B. Hase’s Greek diaries in their 19th century context. Under it’s title “The Secret Diary of Karl Benedikt Hase: Greek, Diary-writing and Philhellenism in 19th-century Paris”, the team presented their research on Hase’s precise use of the ancient language to represent 19th century realities, his choice of words for daily life and his activities as a cultural supporter of Greeks in Europe.
