Following one of the team’s now traditional “Edit-a-thons” in Innsbruck today, the digital edition of the year 1839 from Hase’s diary has been uploaded to the publication website: https://app.transkribus.org/sites/lagoos. This is the third diary volume (of nine) published by the ΛΑΓΩΟΣ project.

The year 1839 saw Hase’s trip to Algiers, which he undertook as part of his responsibilities in the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres connected to France’s military-scientific expedition to Northern Africa. The year also saw professional turmoil among employees at the French national library, as a new minister (Narcisse-Achille de Salvandy) sought to effect a series of structural changes that left Hase and his colleagues fearing for their jobs. Finally, there were uprisings among the population of France in May 1839 over a new set of unpopular governmental ministers, which disrupted life on the streets of the capital and caused considerable fear among its residents.

The open-access publication of the transcribed Greek text, tagged notes of commentary on people, places, publications and objects, as well as detailed English summaries of each day, is published on the project’s edition website (on the Transkribus Sites platform), as well as in xml format on Zenodo.
